When we think of ladders, we think of climbing.  We all aspire to higher heights.  But sometimes we
seek the right thing in the wrong way.  Jacob got there by deception and dishonesty.  God had to
humble him before he could exalt him.  God often still works in the same way.  Sometimes he has to
cripple us before he can crown us.  Once we quit fighting and yield to God, then God can make us
great.  The way to greatness is to follow the example of Jesus.  To get higher, we must serve others.
